COMMITTED TO PRESERVING THE HISTORY OF HUNLOCK TOWNSHIP, PA
The Hunlock Creek Historical Society (HCHS) was formed in the summer of 2018 in an attempt to preserve the history of Hunlock Township for future generations to come. Township residents, past and present, decided to organize in order to preserve the history of the community before it is forgotten.

The groups efforts began with the donation of the Oakdale one-room schoolhouse by the son of the prior owner. Since the formal organization of the HCHS in 2018 the group has worked to preserve the structure and restore it to its original splendor thanks to donations and volunteer work. Once completed it is the goal of the HCHS to utilize the schoolhouse as a learning museum showcasing artifacts from around the township as well as demonstrating how one-room schoolhouses operated prior to school consolidation efforts throughout the county.

The organizations purpose is to...

  • Preserve, restore, and maintain the Oakdale one-room schoolhouse as well as other future projects should they arise.
  • Catalogue, digitize, and preserve locally significant historical artifacts.
  • Promote the preservation of the history of Hunlock Township for generations to come.
